Description: This image is of the Dusshera Festival in a town outside of Varanasi, India, held under a full moon. It is a Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. Enormous effigies of the evil 10-headed demon Ravana and his son and his brother are stuffed with firecrackers and set ablaze at night in an open field. Here, Ravana has not yet been set alight but the other two are in flames. I cropped the picture to eliminate one of the other two figures that was only partially standing and thus unbalanced the photo. I elbowed my way to the front of the crowd to be as close as possible to the effigies. This was hand held, 1/180" at f/4.0, ISO 2500, with an 18-105 mm lens at 18 mm (27 mm equivalent with my Sony APS-C camera). The image was converted to B&W in Lightroom and subjected to Topaz Sharpen and Denoise.
