So there she sits, on a blue step of a stairway in the Old City, ‘The Blue City’, Jodhpur, and as I prepare to shoot, a pigeon, flying overhead in this narrow alleyway, startles her, she looks up, and at that moment, I realized, that’s the shot! Thank you pigeon!
Because my exposure was now being set for the subjects brighter face, (I walked but a few steps, and with my lens ‘filling’ her face) I set an exposure for this brighter light and was then able to render the bright face in contrast to the now under-exposed, somewhat darker surroundings.
