I think about my friends, near and very far, even my friends from the Karo tribe in Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, a tribe who I am sure will also be impacted by the virus, a tribe which myself and my students have spent time with, four years running.
It seems with each day, I come to a new realization of just how far reaching this pandemic has become. In the face of all of this adversity, I remain committed to returning to the Karo tribe next February, just as i have done for these past four years!
As the sun was setting on this day in mid-February of this year, the atmosphere, rightly so was of immense gratitude for being able to participate in the daily lives of the Karo tribe. Unknowingly, we were but a few weeks from learning about the far reaching virus.
Obviously, when I am able to return to my ‘normal’ life of traveling around the world, I am feeling anxious at what I may discover, what I may learn, what I may hear. But always hopeful, it is my sincere wish that when I return to the Karo next February I will hear only good news.
