Some houses in this small Ethiopian village, about sixty miles south of the capital, Addis Ababa, were painted in very bright colors, pink, cyan or in the case of this house, lime green, while other houses in the village went unpainted. I was quick to learn that a painted house meant one had a higher income, and I also learned the choice one made in choosing their house color was a simple one, but with a defined meaning; it was their favorite color, but also it was the homeowners favorite color because of their interpretation of its symbolism and in the case of this lime green house, the owner said, “Green is always young, therefore no one will feel old in this house”, further evidence that color is a universal language. Lucky for me the teenage daughter of the homeowner was a willing model who just so happened to be wearing a red headpiece, RED, the compliment to green. I looked at my watch, it said 8:20am, “I still have an entire day ahead of me, and yet I feel a sense of fulfillment normally associated with the end of the day. I am a lucky man. You keep shooting!
