We camped, for two nights with one of the Hamar Tribes near Turmi, Ethiopia, and it was the first evening, while scouting locations, that I saw this large ‘lookout tower’ like rock monolith and with its west facing view it was a quick no-brainer that this is where I would hope to place a small group of Hamer men, a few with guns, raised in the air, as the sunset in the background and as is obvious, I had no trouble finding willing subjects and as is a very common practice in this part of the world with many of these tribes, payment for ‘modeling’ is expected and for a shot like this, negotiations are done ahead of time, but payment is made AFTER the shooting and in this case that payment was a ‘whopping’ $3.06 for each of the men in the photo, paid in the Ethiopian currency of BHIR.
Nikon D500, Nikkor 18-300@450mm effective focal length, F/13@1/320 sec. 100 ISO,
Great shot!
Love these lessons, thank you
