From the bar at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, situated atop the tallest hill in Muscat, Oman, the view of the ocean below is truly impressive, especially nearing sunset and as luck would have it, a lone male figure appeared on the beach below, a witness to the sunset that took place 10 minutes earlier, and now, unbeknownst to him, he is playing the role of the solitary man in my composition, a composition that just might resonate with Thoreau’s conviction that “all men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Nikon D810, Nikkor 200-500mm at 500mm, F14@1/250 sec. 400 ISO
