Stillness

Stillness

How does one honor the utter stillness of the forest, the peaceful silence, rarely interrupted, yet a welcomed interruption by the cheerful melody of a nearby white-crowned sparrow? The forest floor has become quite the canvas; short grasses and moss mounds, patches of lichen dotted by red berries, and splashes of warm colors, aspen leaves, now at rest, following their slow melodic journey to the earth below, no longer shimmering in the cool breeze of autumn, no longer afforded a view from the top, but like all living things, a return to earth, their final resting place where soon these leaves will vanish, leaving a replenished soil behind but not before a final ‘portrait’ sitting. Happy Holidays everyone and you keep shooting! You keep shooting. Nikon D500, Nikkor 18-300mm, F14@1/8 sec. 50 ISO, tripod, Daylight/Sunny WB
