Enchanted

Enchanted

Mesmerized? Hypnotized? Spellbound? Captivated? Dazzled? Transfixed? Enchanted? Gripped? Moved? Charmed?...it was her ashen face, literally, ashes, from a spent fire, combined with her gaze, a gaze that shot out from the surrounds of a thick black cloth that provided some degree of warmth on this unusually cold, damp morning. She, a young girl from Ethiopia’s Mursi Tribe, perhaps four years old, now feeling ‘complete’ and ready for her portrait, only after her older sister shared a bit of red lipstick with her, red lipstick that my daughter Chloë had volunteered, when asked earlier this morning by several young Mursi girls, if Chloë had any makeup they might have.
